Hallaniyat
The dive site
Hallaniyat at a glance
In winter, the southern tour follows the coast to the Hallaniyat
Islands
—arguably the most diverse diving area in the Sultanate! Dives there promise extraordinary biodiversity and an incredible abundance of fish! The five Hallaniyat Islands lie in the open ocean, about 40 to 70 km south of Dhofar, and only one of the islands is inhabited. Beautiful bays nestled between rugged cliffs make the crossings between the individual islands an adventure even from the surface. With a little luck, you might spot resident humpback whales, and on the way back to Mirbat, you might even see huge schools of dolphins! The pristine Hallaniyats offer an intact underwater world with massive schools of fish and a beautiful shipwreck! Sometimes you can even encounter manta rays and mobulas there. All in all, the Hallaniyat Islands are the perfect winter destination, where you can expect one or two outstanding surprises.
