Hin Daeng at a glance

“Hin” means “rock” or “mountain,” and “Daeng” means “red.” So, the Red Rock. Above water, Hin Daeng looks very unremarkable—just a few small rocks jutting a few meters above the water’s surface.

Underwater, however, Hin Daeng is one of Thailand’s most spectacular dive sites. Overgrown with red and pink soft corals, the reef pulsates with life; thousands of tiny glassfish and an indescribable abundance of fish make this dive a truly special experience.

On the eastern side, at a depth of about 15 meters, there is a cleaning station where manta rays frequently come to be cleaned. If divers remain calm and do not try to follow the manta rays, they will majestically circle the area and return to the cleaning station on their own time and again. Leopard sharks are also often seen patrolling around the reef at Hin Daeng.

For experienced divers, the Hin Daeng and Hin Muang dive sites are a paradise. For beginners, however, diving here is not recommended due to the depth and the sometimes strong currents.
