Shaab Aiman

Shaab Aimann is one of the less frequently dived reefs in St. Johns. The best dive site on the reef is the plateau at the southern end, which starts at 15 meters and ends at a depth of 32 meters.   This plateau isn’t very large, so there isn’t much distance to cover. You won’t find anything better than this plateau and its surroundings anywhere else in Shaab Aimann. It’s best to follow the edge of the drop-off. At the southern tip of the plateau stands a large gorgonian fan, in which a long-nosed tuftfish hides.   Then it’s worth circling around the coral blocks at various depths across the small plateau. At about 14m, it’s best to follow the left side of the reef and dive along the eastern side of the reef for a while. Here you’ll find sweetlips and red sea bream. At some point, turn back—depending on your air consumption and how cold you feel—and on the way back to the boat, you’ll find several small fields of anemones on the eastern side at depths ranging from 3 to 9 meters.   To end the dive on a humorous note, be sure to check out a whip coral at about 5 meters near the anchorage. A whip coral goby lives there, twisting wildly around the whip coral.
