Sharks and More - Noonu Atoll

Sharks and More - Noonu Atoll at a glance

This is where a diver’s dreams come true—a real “shark-light”!
To the west of Kuda-Funafaru lies a thila that begins at a depth of 15 meters and stretches like a saddle for about 80 meters from north to south. The north side of the thila drops in stepped overhangs to a depth of 25 meters. The east side consists of a gently sloping sandy area from 18 to 24 meters, where stingrays are often found resting. Gray reef sharks, barracudas, big-eyed trevally, hunting tuna, and eagle rays patrol along the thila. A large school of batfish and a school of bannerfish have also made this their home. On the reef top, you can often observe gray reef sharks having their teeth cleaned. To do this, they position themselves almost vertically and let the cleaner fish do their work.
This is a somewhat more challenging dive when the current is strong.
