Diving in Thailand

For the “average” tourist: The Land of Smiles. For the diving tourist: The diving destination of leopard sharks and seahorses.

The Thais introduce their guests to a diverse and at times seemingly contradictory culture. On the one hand, they love karaoke and cockfighting, and their bustling cities are filled with garish colors from all kinds of advertisements. On the other hand, yoga, meditation, and spas have a very long tradition, and massage parlors can be found everywhere in Thailand. And no matter where you go, you’ll always encounter friendly people who place great value on happiness, good nutrition, and a strong sense of physical well-being.

So, in my opinion, Thailand offers a wonderful mix of interesting dive sites, excellent food, and breathtaking flora and fauna above the water. For me, Thailand is the perfect place to unwind and relax both body and soul. Relaxing yet exciting dives during the day, followed by a green Thai curry in the evening…

Thailand borders the Indian Ocean to the west and the South China Sea to the east. The diving areas of greatest interest to divers are located in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. The best time to visit the Andaman Sea is from November through May. Visibility is generally better in the Andaman Sea than in the Gulf of Thailand. The rainy season in the Andaman Sea region runs from May through November. The Andaman Sea, in particular, is home to peaceful, beautiful islands such as Koh Lanta and Koh Hai, as well as cities like Phuket and Ao Nang. For dive sites in the Gulf of Thailand, the best time to visit is from April through October.
